Biden Administration Approves TPS for Ukrainians living in the U.S.

By March 3, 2022No Comments

The Biden administration just approved Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Ukrainians living in the United States. TPS is a humanitarian protection from deportation given usually to citizen of countries where there is harsh conditions like war or natural disasters.

Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Majorkas created an 18-month TPS program for Ukrainians who have lived in the U.S. since March 1st, 2022. TPS will allow Ukrainians affected by the current brutal invasion of Ukraine by Russia, to live in the U.S. with a work permit.

It is expected that about 30,000 Ukrainians living in the U.S. could benefit from this new TPS designation.

As stated by immigration attorney Eduardo A. Maura: “we are happy to hear this news from the Biden administration. The news coming from Ukraine are horrible, depressing. What Putin is doing to innocent civilians and Ukraine in general is atrocious. At least those here in the U.S. without residency, will be able to stay for a while.”
