Ayala Law Files Federal Lawsuit Over Fraudulent Investment Scheme Involving Elderly Religious Community

By June 16, 2026No Comments

We recently filed a federal lawsuit in the Middle District Court of Florida on behalf of several investors and their nonprofit organization, arising from an alleged investment scheme initially presented as a fundraising initiative for a religious-community project. The complaint explains how the project’s leader and other co-conspirators solicited large investments for a project purportedly aimed at mass bidding on state-funded lotteries using an alleged proprietary statistical method.

The investors were told that the project would both generate profits and provide financial assistance to elderly members of a religious community. Based on these representations, the investors contributed hundreds of thousands of dollars towards the venture. However, the promised project never materialized, and despite repeated demands for repayment, the funds are still missing.

This lawsuit implicates claims for breach of contract, civil theft (under Florida law), conversion, and unjust enrichment. We are committed to recovering our client’s investment, as well as deterring similar schemes taking advantage of those who are actually attempting to help their community

This case serves as an important reminder that purported charitable or religious affiliations do not excuse compliance with fundamental legal obligations governing investments, fiduciary responsibilities, and the handling of entrusted funds.
